UNESCO and the United Nation Population Fund have released a new Comprehensive Sexuality Education resource providing a good overview of international systematic review evidence around CSE, including evidence supporting theory-based approaches, culturally relevant interventions, skill-building components, use of interactive digital-based interventions, peer-based interventions, social network approaches, combining school-based sexuality education and SRH services as well as abstinence only until marriage approaches.

The aim of this report is to offer a policy-maker audience an overview of the systematic review evidence on programme effectiveness of Comprehensive Sexuality Education (CSE), as well as the mechanisms within CSE that increase its effectiveness and acceptability. In particular, the report addresses:

  • Content and approaches
  • Innovative practices
  • Implementation modalities
  • Links with families and communities
