This webinar presented on April 26, 2022, focused on how social and behavior change programming is well suited to addressing equity and social determinants of health in family planning/reproductive health. It also explored how to apply these to efforts for social and structural change pertaining to contraceptive autonomy and reproductive empowerment. Presentations featured the voices and experiences of global researchers and practitioners based in Kenya, Nigeria, and South Africa.

The webinar was moderated by Carol Underwood, Associate Professor, Johns Hopkins Center for Communication Programs. Danette Wilkins, Program Officer, Breakthrough ACTION, Johns Hopkins Center for Communication Programs, presented an issue overview. The featured panelists were:

  • Sara Jewett Nieuwoudt, Senior Lecturer and Coordinator of the Social and Behaviour Change Communication Division, University of Witwatersrand, South Africa
  • Babafunke Fagbemi, Executive Director, Centre for Communication and Social Impact, Nigeria
  • Catherine Lengewa, Technical Director, Centre for Behaviour Change and Communication, Kenya
