Factors influencing access around contraception and abortion services during the COVID-19 pandemic in Iran, Bangladesh and the Netherlands
The COVID-19 situation left noteworthy numbers of women of reproductive age 15 49 with reduced access to contraception and abortion services. This mixed-method research analyzed and
compared the differences in accessibility in family planning/contraceptive methods and abortion services in three countries, namely Iran, Bangladesh and the Netherlands as experienced by
service users and service providers. The study highlights the measures that are taken to improve access and the recommendations on how to continue access to care in future crises as mentioned by both types of respondents, connecting the study findings advocating for better SRHR policy and practices.
Goal and objectives
To assess the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on access to contraception or safe abortion services for women of reproductive age in Iran, Bangladesh and the Netherlands.
The specific objectives included:
- To identify barriers and challenges faced by healthcare workers on providing contraception and safe abortion services
- To identify barriers and challenges faced by women of reproductive age on accessing contraception and safe abortion services
- To identify changes in the choice of contraception methods by women of reproductive age
