CoP Overview and Introduction:

Sexual Reproductive Health and Reproductive Rights (SRH&RR) are important issues that have a significant impact on individuals and society as a whole. They include access to comprehensive sexual education, and contraception, as well as the right to make informed decisions about one’s own body and health. As an organization that believes access to information is a human right and aims to empower individuals to make informed decisions about their health by providing them with accurate and comprehensive information about sexual and reproductive health, Sharenet Jordan established the Parents-Adolescent SRH&RR Information and Education Community of Practice (CoP). The CoP is a group of 11 master’s degree students from The Center of Women Studies at the University of Jordan, who are dedicated to understanding and addressing issues related to SRH&RR. The CoP’s main focus is on the sociological aspect of SRH&RR, specifically the communication and impact of social and cultural concepts on individual practices. The group’s research centers on the relationship between parents and adolescents with regard to sexual and reproductive health information and education. This is an important area of study as parents play a crucial role in shaping the beliefs and practices of their children. The CoP aims to understand the ways in which parents and adolescents communicate about these issues, and how cultural and social factors may influence these conversations. One of the main challenges for the CoP is that as postgraduates, they have different responsibilities and commitments compared to undergraduate students. Balancing their academic work with their other commitments can be challenging. However, despite this, the CoP is committed to making a meaningful contribution to the field of sexual and reproductive health and reproductive rights through their research and advocacy efforts.

CoP Objectives:

  1. To understand and address issues related to SRH&RR from a sociological perspective. This includes studying the communication and impact of social and cultural concepts on individual practices.
  2. Researching the relationship between parents and adolescents with regard to sexual and reproductive health information and education, as parents play a crucial role in shaping the beliefs and practices of their children. By understanding the ways in which parents and adolescents communicate about these issues and how cultural and social factors may influence these conversations, the CoP hopes to identify ways to improve communication and education in this area.
  3. To create knowledge products that contribute to the field of SRH&RR. This may include research reports, advocacy materials, and educational resources that can be used by organizations and individuals working in this field.
  4. To make a meaningful contribution to the field of SRH&RR through their research and advocacy efforts.
