The 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence (GBV) is a yearly global campaign by 16dayscampaign.org, running from November 25 which is International Day Against Violence Against Women, until December 10, International Human Rights Day.
In 2021, the campaign celebrated its 30th anniversary. The 16 Days Campaign has focused with great success on raising awareness on gender-based violence against women. This is an important part of the struggle, but alone visibility it is not enough. Making a shift from awareness to full accountability is important, and something that Share-Nets Gender Based Violence Communities of Practise (CoP) focus on. You can learn more about Share-Net Bangladesh's GBV CoP here, Share-Net Colombia's GBV CoP here (in Spanish), and Share-Net Netherlands GBV CoP here.
Share-Nets 2022 campaign was created by Share-net Netherlands, and distributed amongst Share-Nets Country hubs. Many of our hubs ran their their own campaigns with locally relevant content, enabling Share-Net International to share a global social media campaign highlighting multiple issues surrounding Gender Based Violence. The campaign images SNI and SN-NL shared (below) raised awareness on GBV topic areas and shared success stories from our members, spotlighting how they are putting the various topics on the agenda and holding governments and communities accountable. Topic focuses included:
-
- Female Genital Mutilation/Cutting (FGM/C)
- Obstetric Violence
- GBV towards sex workers, brown & black individuals, and disabled individuals.
- Youth involvement in GBV activities
