FWOS Full Scholarship

The FWOS (Fonds Wetenschappelijk Onderzoek Seksualiteit) is offering two full scholarships for the Summer Institute on Sexuality, Culture & Society. The scholarship will cover the expenses for tuition (€2350) as well as housing in Amsterdam (€575). The conditions for eligibility for the scholarship are as follows:

  1.  You are a Dutch national OR full time scholar residing in the Netherlands;
  2.  You are currently registered in a PhD degree program, MA programme, or connected to a NGO;
  3. Your dissertation/research project addresses the topic of human sexual development (from any social and behavioral science approach/methodology). Please note that the focus of your research must be on human sexual development, which is distinct from the focus of general development studies which is the policies, practices and processes involved in overcoming poverty and creating healthy, sustainable societies in the global arena.

In order to apply for this support, you must meet all above requirements.  If you meet these requirements, you must answer the following questions and include your response in the required commitment statement as part of your application:

  1. How are you addressing the topic of human sexual development in your work?
  2. What are the interconnections between sexual development and the primary focus of your thesis research?
  3. How might your research offer new ideas regarding sexual development?

If you meet the above conditions and would like to be considered for the scholarship, please write “FWOS” in “scholarship” field on the online application.

You will have the opportunity to further evolve your thinking about human sexual development and its incorporation in your research by participating in a scheduled, outside of class, consultation session with the Academic Director, which is required for all FWOS recipients.

Application deadline: April 1, 2018 23:59 (CEST)

The mission of the FWOS is to stimulate innovative research on sexual development of youth in the Netherlands and especially, research that results in relevant interventions and new theoretical insights. The fund puts emphasis on diversity in the broadest sense of the word, as well as prioritizing intersectional approaches. By providing scholarships to local Summer Institute participants, the fund wishes to stimulate a new generation of (junior) researchers and the evolution of their expertise in this area. U21/LERU Partial Scholarship

If your home university is a member of the Universitas 21 Network and/or the LERU Network then you may be eligible for a tuition reduction scholarship of €500.  You must be a current student at that university when you apply for the summer programme.

Students from Dutch universities on these lists are not eligible for these scholarships.

When making your application, please note in the “funding” field if you are applying for a LERU/U21 tuition reduction scholarship. The Summer Programmes Office GSSS will then be able to submit your application to the U21/LERU scholarship fund. The final decision on granting these scholarships is made by the UvA following the acceptance of the candidates into the summer programmes. The €500 scholarship will be deducted from your tuition.
