Share-Net International is happy to announce that 15 applications have been selected for the Activation Grants round 2022!

We are glad it has brought us this result of 15 highly diverse quality proposals in which multiple SRHR theme’s, regions and populations will be addressed. We are confident the grants will lead to a great variety of very interesting knowledge products. 

The Share-Net International (SNI) Activation Grants contribute to supporting knowledge management activities amongst our members. The grants provide funding which traditionally has been used for applied research, the documentation of practices, and the creation of knowledge products to improve policy and practice in Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR). At SNI, we strive for inclusivity, diversity, and a participatory approach by awarding grants to applicants from all our seven hubs in Bangladesh, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Colombia, Ethiopia, Jordan, and the Netherlands, alongside members of Share-Net International. The grants offer applicants the freedom to cover the topics they want and use a participatory process involving members at all stages of the grant-making process. 

The 2022 Grantees’ projects cover various SRHR topics: from Abortion rights, SRHR for persons with disabilities and special needs, and projects focusing on Female Genital Mutilation, to menstrual hygiene for LGBTQIA+ people and contraceptive rights. Share-Net Bangladesh 

Grantee: BRAC James P Grant School of Public Health, BRAC University

Project: LGBTIQ+ Adaption for Inclusive SRHR Policies 

A knowledge collaboration project documenting the current strategy of the LGBTIQ+ movement when adapting to changes, their challenges, and coping strategies to generate evidence-based knowledge for inclusive policies in the field of SRHR 

Share-Net Burkina Faso 

Grantee: Femin-in 

Project: Contraception and Access to Secured Abortion Amongst Women, Girls, Marginalised Groups, and LGBTQ+ People.

A knowledge translation project addressing access to different contraceptive methods for women, young people, girls, adolescents and specific groups (LGBTQ+), and the right to access safe abortion. 

Share-Net Burundi 

Grantee: Association Burundaise des Etudiants en Médecine (ABEM) & Urukundo Initiative 

Project: SRHR Communication in Adolescents and Young People. 

This collaborative project will address the lack of access to factual information about SRHR for youth in Burundi, through producing useful knowledge that helps young people to enjoy their secuality in fulfilled and informed ways, and taking ownership of their SRHR 

Grantee: Centre de Recherche et d’Intervention pour le Développement Individuel, communautaire et Social (CRIDIS) 

Project: SRHR Training Materials for Young People with Disabilities. 

CRIDIS will develop SRHR training guides for peer educators, managers, and young people living with disabilities, with an additional focus on AIDs, and empowering girls’ access to menstrual hygiene products.  

Grantee: Soutien et Solidarité pour l’autodéveloppement (SOSODE asbl) 

Project: Young people’s access to SRHR knowledge. 

SOSODE will examine the key problem of insufficient SRHR knowledge noted in centres housing young people and adolescents, bringing knowledge solutions through awareness-raising activities, training, advocacy, and dialogue sessions.  

Share-Net Colombia 

Grantee: Asociación Afrocultural Neftali Mosquera Afnemo Kilombo 

Project: IDP from Afro-Indigenous Descendance.  

This project investigates increased perinatal maternal mortality in Bogota and Colombia’s remote rural majority ethnic population, the increase in poverty and gender gaps due to the digital age, and the systematic exclusion of ancestral practices within perinatal care as complementary form of the maternal RIAS by the General Health and Social Security System.  

Grantee: Observatorio de Asuntos de Género de Norte de Santander 

Project: SRHR Knowledge for Young women from Colombia and Venezuela. 

Addressing limitations and the lack of SRHR knowledge with a Human Rights approach, the project pays close attention to concepts and practises related to sexual orientation and gender identity (SOGI), intersectionality, full and free sexuality, menstrual health, contraception, abortion, family planning, and the prevention of violence and discrimination against women in Venezuala and Colombia.  

Share-Net Ethiopia 

Grantee: Good Samaritan Association (GSA) 

Project: SRHR of Internally Displaced People (IDPs) in Northern Ethiopia. 

GSA focuses on SRHR in humanitarian settings, specifically focusing on internally displaced people in the Amhara Region of Ethiopia. GSA’s three core objectives are creating evidence based SRHR information, improved access to comprehensive and gender-equitable SRHR information and services, and influencing local stakeholders to prioritise SRHR in crisis situations.

Project: Awareness raising and influencing policy for SRHS and information for persons with special needs

Share-Net Jordan 

Grantee: The Institute for Family Health 

Project: SRHR information for persons living with visual disabilities 

Creation of two SRH booklets using Braille to enhance access to SRH materials for people with visual disabilities.   

Share-Net Netherlands 

Grantee: The Universitair Medisch Centrum Utrecht – Julius Center for Health Sciences and Primary Care 

Project: Multimedia Gender and SRHR Database

The creation of a multimedia database containing up-to-date, student-driven stories capturing the state of SRHR in their households, reflecting on knowledge gaps, documenting current practises, and further disseminating SRHR knowledge in their communities.  

Share-Net International 

Grantee: Favour Low-cost Healthcare Foundation (FALCOH), Cameroon

Project: SRHR of Vulnerable Groups in Crisis Settings

Following previous research, FALCOH will produce stakeholder reports on best-practises for closing the gap on access to SRHR services for persons living with Disabilities, particularly in conflict settings.

Grantee: Organization For Health In Sustainable Development (OHISD), Cameroon

Project: Video Podcast series – A Call to Action on Female Genital Mutilation (FGM)

Using a gender transformative approach to tackle underlying drivers of gender inequality that promote the practice of FGM, a video-podcast series and advocacy against FGM will be produced – a call-to-action that will be presented to policy-makers, stakeholders, and community leaders and perpetrators of FGM, to further the eradication of this harmful practise.

Grantee: Umunthu FM, Malawi:

Project: Menstrual Health Documentation for People with Disabilities 

Umunthu FM will produce 2-page documents around Menstrual Health, including Braille Translations, for dissemination to women and girls with disabilities. Further semi-national symposiums, presentations, and radio shows will be held around SRHR and disability issues.

Grantee: Youth Network for Community and Sustainable Development (YNCSD), Nigeria

Project: Abortion Training Materials: From Advocacy Guidelines to Data Banks and Videos

YNCSD will create various informational SRHR materials in the Nigerian context, aiming to advance robust Abortion advocacy in Nigeria.
