This HIV Vaccine Awareness Day (May 18), we invite you to help us celebrate the promise and progress of HIV vaccine research and development (R&D). Researchers are working tirelessly to develop a preventive vaccine and to end AIDS once and for all. We absolutely must utilize current tools to avert every new infection and protect every life we can until there is a vaccine. However, definitively and sustainably ending the AIDS epidemic requires new innovations like a vaccine.
Expanded global partnerships, sustained funding for R&D, political will, and continued community support are needed to get us to the finish line. That’s why we’re asking you to join us in a social media campaign to recognize the incredible progress toward a vaccine and the amazing men and women around the globe who are leading it.
In the coming days, keep your eyes locked on the @IAVI Twitter handle for some exciting sharable content, including videos featuring African clinical trial volunteers, scientists, community leaders, and advocates engaged in HIV vaccine R&D; illustrations by renowned Indian artist Indu Harikumar sharing the stories of people affected by HIV/AIDS; and media interviews featuring IAVI experts discussing progress toward a vaccine. We encourage you to share these informative pieces on your own social channels using #HVAD2017.
You can also make a personal contribution using #RnD4HIV:
If you have any questions or concerns regarding IAVI’s social media campaign, please reach out to me. We look forward to raising our voices together in support of R&D toward an HIV vaccine! Many thanks for your supportive selfie!
