On the 21st of November 2016, a meeting was held with Ian Askew, Director, Department of Reproductive Health and Research including UNDP-UNFPA-UNICEF-WHO-World Bank Special Programme of Research, Development and Research Training in Human Reproduction (HRP). Within the WHO, Ian provides leadership on matters critical to sexual and reproductive health by shaping the research agenda, and coordinating high-impact research; setting norms and standards; articulating an ethical and human-rights-based approach; and supporting research capacity in low-income settings.
At the meeting both representatives of the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs and representatives of Share-Net were present. Meike Stieglis, Share-Net Netherlands Coordinator, gave an interesting presentation about Share-Net and focused on the different types of research we have set out.
During the meeting it was agreed to increase the collaboration between Share-Net and the HRP programme. The purpose of the collaboration is to strengthen knowledge sharing and translating evidence into policy and practice related to research in SRHR carried out by WHO and Share-Net members. It was agreed to share the research focus of the NOW-WOTRO research grants received by the country nodes in Bangladesh, Jordan and Burundi and the small grants topics. This will form the basis for further discussion.
