Webinar on men’s roles in abortion decision-making: Research from Ghana & India

September 25, 2018 @ 8:00 am - 5:00 pm

men's roles

Join Ipas, Promundo and ICRW for a webinar exploring men’s roles in abortion decision-making

New research from Ghana and India provides key insights into men’s attitudes and involvement in relation to women seeking abortion

Research has shown that among women seeking abortion, those with support from their partners are more likely to seek an abortion from a skilled provider or to use a safe, proven method. We know that men often hold power and influence when it comes to making a final decision with regard to women’s reproductive health behaviors. But little research has been conducted about men’s motivations to support women’s access to safe abortion services, a central component of sexual and reproductive health, rights, and justice.

In this webinar, we’ll share findings from two studies that explore men’s role in abortion:

  • Sapna Kedia, Technical Specialist with the International Center for Research on Women (ICRW), will discuss findings from “Male Involvement in Pre-Marital Abortions in Delhi.”
  • Samuel Kojo Antobam, Senior Research and Evaluation Advisor for Ipas Ghana, will share findings from “Understanding men’s support of family planning and abortion in Northern Ghana.”

Additional framing and insights will be provided by Jane Kato-Wallace, Director of Programs at Promundo, and Kathryn Andersen, Chief Scientific and Technical Officer at Ipas.
