Share-Net in collaboration with Amref Flying Doctors, CHOICE for Youth and Sexuality, Rutgers and Simavi would like to invite you for a meeting regarding the Nairobi Summit on ICPD25 , followed by a reception to welcome the new Youth Ambassador SRHR Justine van de Beek.
The meeting will inform participants about the process around the Nairobi Summit. We will exchange and discuss global and national commitments with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and other ministries notably Health and Education. We will also make a start on a joint communication plan for the Summit.
The event will be held on the 9th of September from 14.30 to 17.00, followed by the reception from 17.00 to 18.30 at the Humanity House in The Hague.
2019 Marks the 25th anniversary of the International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD) in Cairo, where 179 governments adopted a landmark Programme of Action. Ever since, the Netherlands – both government and civil society – has supported this agenda. From 12-14 November 2019, the Government of Kenya, the Government of Denmark and UNFPA are convening the ICPD25 Nairobi Summit, a high-level conference to mobilise political will and financial commitments to implement the ICPD Programme of Action. The outcome of the Summit will be a set of global commitments, which will be centered around achieving zero unmet need for family planning information and services, zero preventable maternal deaths, and zero sexual and gender-based violence and harmful practices against women and girls. Countries are requested to formulate specific national commitments focused on the implementation of the ICPD, to be presented in Nairobi. Many countries can built upon the ICPD25 review process, and the national reports that were prepared for the regional ICPD reviews (held in 2018).
The conference will offer an inclusive platform, bringing together governments, UN agencies, civil society, private sector organizations, women’s groups and youth networks to discuss and agree on actions to meet this important goal.
