Girls Not Brides the Netherlands and Share-Net invite you to this year’s second Lecture Series on Child Marriage. This lecture will take place on Thursday the 11th of April 2019 from 15:00 – 16:30 at Rutgers in Utrecht, at the Arthur van Schendelstraat 696 (HNK building 6th Floor).
Changing harmful gender and sexual norms and related power relations is at the core of Rutgers’ Gender Transformative Approach (GTA). These norms are often at the root of child marriage and related issues. For example, practitioners working in the SRHR field have all heard stories of teachers who had sexual relationships with girls in their class, or of peer educators involved in unwanted pregnancies etc.
However, we should not only look at the ‘other’; social psychology teaches us that we ourselves might also have internalised unconscious gender biases. Test this for yourself through the following link (please use Internet Explorer to open the link). Rutgers therefore believes change starts with oneself, and has identified 6 evidence informed key principles for gender transformative approaches.
You are welcome to explore and experience the Gender Transformative Approach during this interactive session!
Places are limited! RVSP before the 5th of April by using this link and share with your colleagues. In case you cannot attend due to unexpected circumstances, we would kindly ask you to let us know a week before the event. In this way we can give your place to people on the waiting list.
