The sixty-fourth session of the Commission on the Status of Women is planned to take place at the United Nations Headquarters in New York from 9 to 20 March 2020. The global community will mark the twenty-fifth anniversary of the Fourth World Conference on Women and adoption of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action (1995). A five-year milestone will be reached towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. 2020 is therefore a pivotal year for the accelerated realization of gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls, everywhere. Representatives of Member States, UN entities, and ECOSOC-accredited non-governmental organizations (NGOs) from all regions of the world are invited to attend the session.
The main focus of the Commission on the Status of Women 64 will be on the review and appraisal of the implementation of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action and the outcomes of the 23rd special session of the General Assembly. The review will include an assessment of current challenges that affect the implementation of the Platform for Action and the achievement of gender equality and the empowerment of women and its contribution towards the full realization of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
NGOs that are accredited to and in good standing with the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) may designate representatives to attend the annual sessions of the CSW. Because of increasing demands on limited space, the numbers of attendees to CSW sessions should be kept to a minimum and should not exceed 20 representatives per organization. Organizations should be aware that, in this context, entry into official meetings can still not be guaranteed to all who wish to attend.
Invitation letters have been sent, at start of online registration, to the e-mail addresses registered in the integrated Civil Society Organizations (iCSO) System of the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA) by NGOs in consultative status with the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC). NGOs are kindly requested to make sure that their profile and contact information on the iCSO system includes the latest correct information about their organizations.
CSW64 registration for NGOs in consultative status with the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) will be open from 9 October 2019 to 27 January 2020 online via the United Nations Indico registration system. Please click here to register for CSW64. Online registration is mandatory for all participants. We are not able to accept registrations by email.
For step-by-step instructions on how to register for CSW, please click here to access the support pages in INDICO.
Registered representatives who have been approved by their organizations to attend CSW64 will receive a registration confirmation email. Representatives will need to print out and show their registration confirmation email as well as a valid UN Member State government issued identification (passport if traveling from abroad) in order to collect a UN grounds pass at CSW on-site check-in in March 2020. Specifics regarding on-site check-in and issuance of grounds passes, such as location and opening hours, will be provided in the NGO advisories published closer to the session.
