Access to contraception: The challenge of a decade

June 19, 2019 @ 1:00 pm - 4:15 pm

contraception

What will 2030 look like for reproductive health supplies?

By 2020, there will be 493 million users of contraception in 135 low- and middle-income countries. Meeting their needs will require $8.45 billion. Reproductive health commodity financing over the next decade will see a declining donor resource base. Out-of-pocket expenditures will increase, leading to increased inequalities. There are other challenges on the way to achieving universal access to reproductive health supplies. Supply chains fail women in humanitarian crisis situations and in many other contexts. It is not uncommon for a woman to travel an entire day seeking access to an implant or pill and find an empty shelf. In the next decade, one thing is certain. The environment is evolving and the community must adapt. Let’s plan the road to 2030.
