Worldwide, women are at greater risk for HIV than men and continue to become infected at alarming rates, despite recent progress against the disease. Femaleinitiated microbicides are biomedical products being developed to give women new practical prevention options.

On March 3rd, Share-Net Netherlands organized the Briefing Session ‘Addressing HIV Prevention for Women’ on microbicides designed to help prevent the transmission of HIV to women. We focused on the results of two large scale studies in Sub-Saharan Africa designed to evaluate the safety and efficacy of the monthly dapivirine vaginal ring.

The briefing was conducted by Dr. Zeda F. Rosenberg, founding Chief Executive Officer of the International Partnership for Microbicides (IMP) and included remarks by officials at the Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs and by Aids Fonds/STOP AIDS NOW!.

The format of the briefing was a IMPT Presentation with time for Q&A.
