Empowering the most vulnerable women, men and young people in over 170 countries to access life-saving services and programmes and to live with dignity, the International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF) and its 31,000 employees, along with millions of volunteers, campaign for sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) and deliver education and services through 27,860 service delivery points. The IPPF Secretariat comprises Central Office in London and six Regional Offices, working out of five locations: Africa (Nairobi); Arab World (Tunis); East and South East Asia and Oceania (Bangkok); European Network (Brussels); South Asia (Bangkok); Western Hemisphere (New York). We are a diverse Federation and in 2016, we delivered 182.5 million sexual and reproductive health services.
We are now seeking our next Director General, accountable to the Governing Council, who will lead our diverse, complex and internationally distributed federation, empowering our Member Associations and ensuring the IPPF Secretariat is collaborating and working effectively to achieve our strategic goals. This is an opportunity to achieve significant impact as the most senior leader of one of the world’s largest dedicated SRHR movements. Our Director General will provide leadership, support and strategic vision to IPPF at all levels. They will lead, inspire and direct diverse executive functions in the Central Office, as well as the Regional Offices, overseeing the provision of world class services, advocacy and income generation on behalf of the entire Federation, alongside public representation to the highest levels. This role presents an unrivalled opportunity to use one’s skills as a change agent, an inspirational and strategic leader, an influential and articulate representative, and as a committed and passionate advocate for the rights of all.
The next Director General will require an exceptional range of skills and experience. Above all, they must demonstrate a deep commitment to improving quality of life and ensuring all people’s right to enjoy sexual lives free from ill health, unwanted pregnancy, violence and discrimination. Furthermore, they will have a commitment to a human rights approach, incorporation of gender perspectives and gender equality, as well as experience in advocacy for reproductive rights and sexual rights at local, regional and international level. The successful candidate will bring extensive strategic leadership experience and the ability to effect change as well as a highly developed capacity to build collaboration and cooperation within and across our federation. They will have clear experience of driving innovation, achieving positive organisational development, and will be comfortable with engaging personally in raising funds from a range of actors including institutional donors. In addition, they will possess the interpersonal, advocacy, networking and communication skills to represent and promote IPPF at the local, national and global levels with credibility and confidence. Regular overseas travel is an essential aspect of the job.
The role will be based in London and the salary is competitive and commensurate with the seniority of the appointment.
