The body maps exhibited here stem from a three-days’ workshop organized by the Institute of Tropical Medicine (HIV-SAM project: Sexual Health Promotion and HIV prevention for Sub-Saharan African migrants living in Flanders) and facilitated by Art2Be in Antwerp.
Eleven participants (six women, five men), living in Flanders, but originating from diverse Sub-Saharan African countries, created their own body maps. Carefully guided through this workshop, they painted their body maps using their personal symbols for living with HIV, to improve their inner strengths, sources of support, and their personal future. Sharing the meaning of these symbols and how these activities and the group process affected them during the workshop was a unique experience for them all.
