Invitation to Cocktail Event: Launch of Contraception Atlas White Paper

September 26, 2018 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

It is our pleasure to invite you to the launch of the Contraception Atlas White Paper which is an advocacy document targeting policy makers from geographical Europe, EU and national levels, as well as other stakeholders (e.g. NGOs, industry, academia) with vested interest in the topic, and in changing the status quo. It was developed as a follow-up to the Contraception Atlas launch events which took place in the European Parliament in February 2017 and April 2018.

The Contraception Atlas is an online interactive map that scores 46 countries across geographical Europe on access to modern contraception (https://www.contraceptioninfo.eu/). More specifically, the Atlas focuses on access to online information about modern contraception, and access to contraceptive supplies and counselling. In order to advocate for these issues stakeholders can proactively use the White Paper and its policy recommendations to inform themselves as well as their communities and constituencies about the situation on access to modern and effective contraception in wider Europe. The document can also be used as a supplement to their own strategies on the topic, together with other key Contraception Atlas tools such as the map itself.

Time: 18:00 – 20:00

Date: Wed, 26 Sept 2018 – World Contraception Day

Location: European Parliament, A1E-3

This will be an interactive event, bringing various stakeholders together to discover the Atlas and exchange ideas on how it can inform policy, specifically focusing on the initiative’s advocacy goals. It is a chance to:

  • Leverage the findings of the Atlas into concrete long-term goals for improvement on access to contraception in Europe,
  • Ensure that the Atlas community speaks with one voice on the topic by providing them with a supporting document that builds on their advocacy,
  • Advocate with the decision-makers to use their mandates in order to improve the situation and take evidence-based actions for change in access to information on contraception in Europe,
  • Highlight the problem of UIPs (unintended pregnancies) and the need for proactive urgent government intervention and progress on the topic.

·         Welcome and introductions by host MEPs and MEPs in attendance
·         Presentation of the Contraception Atlas (short summary) and White Paper and recommendations: Neil Datta, EPF Secretary
·         Questions and answers, discussion of the recommendations by the attendees
·         Summary of the Q&A, broader discussion of the next steps
