AFEW International would like to introduce a new project: the AFEW Culture Initiative. The initiative combines art and public health in an Artist in Residence Programme in Amsterdam with six artists from Eastern Europe and Central Asia.  The artists are placed at different Dutch medical and social institutions, such as the AMC, Trimbos, P&G292, Mainline and Regenboog. Their final art works offer new perceptions on major public health concerns such as HIV, TB and viral hepatitis in the Eastern Europe and Central Asian (EECA) region and complement AFEW International’s already consolidated track record in increasing access to prevention, treatment and care for key populations in EECA.

The art works will be showcased at a variety of cultural institutions in the city of Amsterdam between May and July 2018, culminating in an extensive final exhibition taking place during the 22nd International AIDS 2018 Amsterdam Conference, (23-27 July 2018). The final exhibition is set up at the Conference’s Global Village and is accessible for all.
During two special events “PLOV#1-2: FOOD x ART x CINEMA” you can meet the artists and see their ongoing work. These events will take place on the 29th of May and 19th of June in Studio/K in Amsterdam. The cultural events are organized in collaboration with IDFA and Studio/K and are composed of an art exhibition, two-course dinner, movie, and followed by a discussion with the selected artists.
